Templates make captions look the same

Caption tools tend to ship with a set of looks. They're a good starting point, but when thousands of creators use the same handful of animations, viewers notice. Captions are one of the most visible parts of a short-form video. If they look generic, the whole edit does.

Meanwhile, the animations that would make your captions recognisably yours are already on your drive.

Two ways to bring your motion in

1. Your own .ffx presets, on top of any caption style

An .ffx file is After Effects' own animation preset format: keyframes, effects and expressions saved from a layer. Since Captyne 1.5.8 you can add .ffx files to your normal and emphasis words. Every word gets the animation at the moment it appears, layered on top of whichever Captyne preset you're using.

That means you can keep a clean caption preset and add personality per project: a soft blur-in for a calm interview, a punchy scale pop for a product launch. They stay on your computer and are never saved into the caption preset, so sharing or selling a preset never gives away your library.

2. Animation Composer inside your caption presets

Animation Composer by Mister Horse is one of the most popular free animation plugins for After Effects. Since version 1.5.4, Captyne can use its presets when you build a caption preset: the In and Out animations, their controls and the anchor point carry through to every word. Since 1.5.7, the control effect comes back with your saved values when you edit the preset, so you can keep tweaking in Effect Controls.

What works best

Build a small caption kit

Instead of one huge library, keep a focused kit: two or three entrances for normal words, two for emphasis words, and one exit. Name them clearly ("Normal – soft blur in", "Emphasis – overshoot pop"). Over time this kit becomes your caption signature, and you'll reach for it on every project.

Make your captions look like your work

Your Own Animations and Animation Composer support are included in every Captyne plan.
