How to Import SRT or VTT Captions into After Effects with Captyne
If your captions already exist, for example from YouTube, CapCut or an editor on your team, you can skip transcription. Captyne 1.5.8 and later load SRT and VTT caption files directly.
Import the file
On the Setup tab: under Already have captions?, click Import SRT / VTT and choose the file.
Or in Transcript & Raw Data: click Load Transcript / SRT / VTT. This also opens Captyne session files (.json).
Captyne reads the text and timing of every caption and spreads the words across each caption's time. Then you work exactly as after a transcription: review the words, pick a preset and generate.
Tips
- Line up the comp. Caption times are read from the start of the comp, so make sure your footage starts where the captions expect it to.
- Fix words in the Preview. Double-click any word to change it. See Editing captions before you generate.
- Sentence ends still guide grouping. Punctuation in the file helps Captyne group words and build stacked blocks.
- Importing a caption file doesn't use any transcription minutes.
