How to Adjust Caption Timing and Layout After Generating

Updated 1 min read

When you click Generate Captions, Captyne builds everything inside your composition, so you can keep refining it with normal After Effects tools.

What Captyne creates

  • One text layer per word. Each word animates on its own and the effects fit its exact width.
  • Null objects that act as handles:
  • Master null (ACP_MASTER): moves, scales or rotates all captions at once.
  • Phrase nulls (ACP_SET_n_CTRL): one per phrase, to reposition a single phrase. Each word layer (ACP_SET_n_WORD_m) is parented to its phrase null.
  • Markers that drive the animation timing.

Retime with markers, not keyframes

Captyne's animations are driven by layer markers. To shift when a word animates in or out, drag its marker in the timeline. The animation follows, so you don't have to touch keyframes.

Move captions around the frame

Select the master null and move it to reposition every caption, for example higher in the frame for vertical video. Use a phrase null to move one phrase out of the way of a face or graphic.

Change the whole look

To change the style, pick another preset (or adjust the text options) and click Generate Captions again. The previous caption layers are replaced automatically, and your transcript and edits stay as they are.

Tip: fix spelling and grouping in the Preview tab before generating. It's quicker than editing many text layers. See Editing captions before you generate.
