How to Highlight Key Words in Your Captions (Emphasis Styles and AI Decide)
Social-media captions grab attention by making a few words stand out: a different colour, a bigger size or a glow. In Captyne each preset defines up to eight looks, called roles: Normal, Emphasis, and Style 3 to Style 8. See How to build a multi-style caption preset. You choose which words get which look.
Choose an Emphasis Strategy
On the Setup tab, before transcribing:
- Default (Last Word): the last word of every phrase gets the Emphasis style. Predictable and quick.
- AI Decide: the AI picks the meaningful words, such as names, numbers, key verbs and contrasts. It needs the Managed API provider (Pro plan or higher). With other providers it's locked and the preset's default emphasis is used.
- Manual: nothing is emphasised automatically. You pick the words yourself in the Preview tab.
Change emphasis word by word
On the Preview tab, click a word chip to cycle it through the preset's roles. The chip's colour shows its current role. You can override any automatic choice this way.
Active Highlight (karaoke-style captions)
Active Highlight emphasises each word as it's spoken, like karaoke captions. Turn on Enable Active Highlight on the Preview tab and choose how the active word looks:
- Font colour and stroke
- A highlight box behind the word, with padding, rounded corners and a shadow
- A drop shadow
- A short scale "pop"
The Active Highlight Preview shows a live sample as you change the settings.
Tips for captions that read well
- Emphasise one or two words per phrase at most, or nothing stands out.
- Emphasise the word that carries the meaning: numbers, names, the surprising word.
- Use ALL CAPS (the All Caps toggle on the Preview tab) for punchy short-form content without editing every word.
