Captyne Not Showing in Window → Extensions? Here's How to Fix It
After installing, Captyne should appear under Window → Extensions → Captyne in After Effects. If it doesn't, work through these steps in order.
1. Restart After Effects
After Effects only scans for extensions when it starts. If it was open during installation, quit it completely and start it again.
2. Check your After Effects version
Captyne needs After Effects CC 2019 or newer. Older versions don't list it. Check Help → About After Effects.
3. Check the platform
- Mac: Captyne needs an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 12 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
- Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
4. Run the installer again
Close After Effects and run the latest installer from the installation page. It repairs missing files and settings. Your presets and saved captions are kept.
5. Turn on unsigned extensions (advanced)
The installer turns on an Adobe setting (PlayerDebugMode) so After Effects can load Captyne during the beta. If something reset it, the panel won't load.
Windows:
- Press
Win + R, typeregeditand press Enter. - Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\and open eachCSXS.<number>key (for exampleCSXS.11andCSXS.12). - Make sure each one has a String value named
PlayerDebugModeset to1. - Restart After Effects.
Mac: open Terminal and run this, then restart After Effects:
for v in 9 10 11 12; do defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.$v PlayerDebugMode 1; done
6. Panel opens but is blank or stuck on sign-in
- Check your internet connection. Signing in needs it.
- If you're behind a VPN or proxy, see Connection errors behind a VPN or proxy.
- Close and reopen the panel from Window → Extensions → Captyne.
