How to Create Your Own Caption Preset in After Effects
Captyne presets are plain After Effects designs. You build the caption look in a comp with normal layers, effects and animators, and Captyne captures it as a reusable preset.
1. Start a new preset
On the Setup tab, under My Presets, click + New Preset. Captyne creates a tagged template comp in After Effects and opens it.
2. Design your caption style
Style the template layers however you like:
- Fonts, sizes, colours, stroke and fill
- Effects such as Drop Shadow, Glow, Fill, Gradient Ramp or third-party plugins
- Text animators for pop, slide, bounce, blur or typewriter-style reveals
- A separate look for each role, Normal, Emphasis and Style 3, so key words can stand out
Effects are applied per word and adapt to each word's width and position, so design for one word and Captyne repeats it.
3. Capture the preset
When you're happy with it, click ⊙ Capture Preset in the Captyne panel. Captyne reads your design and saves it to My Presets with a preview.
4. Test it
Select your new preset and generate captions on a real clip. Try short and long words and both reveal modes you plan to use. To change something, edit the preset (it reopens the template comp), adjust and capture again.
