How to Import, Export and Share Caption Presets

Updated 1 min read

Captyne presets are small .json files, so they're easy to back up, move to another computer or share with teammates.

Export a preset

  1. On the Setup tab, select the preset in My Presets.
  2. Click ↑ Export and choose where to save the file.

Import a preset

  1. Click ↓ Import on the Setup tab.
  2. Choose the preset .json file. It appears in My Presets straight away.

Get presets from the Marketplace

Switch from My Presets to the Marketplace tab to browse official and community presets with video previews.

  • Free presets install with one click.
  • Paid presets are bought securely through Paddle and then download into My Presets. Buying presets requires an Individual Pro plan or higher. See plans.

You can also browse the full catalogue on the website at captyne.com/marketplace.

"Missing plugin" warning

Some presets use third-party effects such as Deep Glow or Optical Flares. If one isn't installed, Captyne warns you when you select the preset. You can:

  • Install the plugin it names, then restart After Effects, or
  • Choose a preset that uses only After Effects' built-in effects. Presets marked Native AE Only in the Marketplace need no extra plugins.

Back up your presets

To keep all your presets when moving computers, copy the whole presets folder:

  • Windows: %AppData%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\Captyne\presets\
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/Captyne/presets/
