How Managed API Transcription Minutes Work

Updated 1 min read

The Managed API is Captyne's hosted transcription. It needs no setup and runs on any computer. It uses your plan's monthly transcription minutes.

How minutes are counted

  • You're charged for the actual length of the audio that was transcribed, counted in seconds.
  • When you start a transcription, Captyne briefly reserves an estimate based on the file size. Once it's finished, only the real duration is deducted.
  • If a transcription fails, the reserved minutes aren't used.

Check your balance

Open the Account tab in the Captyne panel to see your plan and remaining minutes, or sign in to your account on captyne.com. Need more this month? Use the buy more minutes link on the Account tab.

Ways to save minutes

  • Don't transcribe twice. Captyne saves your transcript and edits with the project, and re-transcribing the same audio with the same settings reuses the earlier result for free. See Your captions are saved with your project.
  • Trim first. Transcribe only the part of the comp you need captions for.
  • Use Offline / Local for long or bulk jobs. It's included on every plan and has no limits. See Offline vs cloud transcription.
  • Use your own API key (OpenAI, Groq or AssemblyAI). These don't touch your Captyne minutes.

When do minutes reset?

Your monthly minutes renew with your billing cycle. See Plans & Pricing for how many minutes each plan includes.
