Work Area Only, Punctuation Switches and Cancelling Caption Generation

Updated 1 min read

These smaller features save a lot of time on long projects.

Transcribe only the work area

On the Setup tab, set Transcribe to Work area only (uses fewer minutes). Captyne transcribes only the part of the comp inside the work area (set it with B and N), and the words still land at the right time.

This is good for saving cloud minutes on long videos. Words right at the edges of the work area may be missed or slightly off, so for final captions transcribe the Whole comp.

Generate captions only in the work area

On the Preview tab, switch on Work Area Only. Captyne builds captions only for phrases that start inside the work area. Phrases are always kept whole. It's the quickest way to test a preset on a few seconds of footage.

Cancel caption generation

While captions are being built, Captyne shows progress such as "Building phrase 12 of 48". Click × to stop. Everything that run added is removed and the rest of your comp is untouched.

On Mac, a progress window with a Cancel button shows while captions are generated (Captyne 1.5.9 and later).

Show or hide punctuation

On the Preview tab, the Punctuation card has three switches: Remove periods, Remove commas and Remove ? and !.

  • Only punctuation at the end of a word is affected. Numbers like 3.5 or 1,000 and "..." are never touched.
  • Sentence ends still guide grouping and stacked blocks, even when periods are hidden.

Your grouping settings are remembered

Words / Phrase, Pause, Words / Line and Reveal Mode are remembered between sessions and when you switch presets. Click ↺ Use preset's values to go back to a preset's own settings. The preset you used last is selected again when Captyne opens.
